Have you heard about the controversy in Florida? A recent court motion may require that new and upcoming graduates retake all parts of the NBEO exam if they intend on practicing in Florida.
Apparently, the law states that the Florida Board of Optometry must certify an applicant as eligible for licensure prior to them taking the NBEO exam. As we all know, optometry students do not typically apply for licensure until after they've taken the NBEO and met requirements for graduation.
If this language sticks, recent graduates and optometry students who have already taken parts of the NBEO would have to first apply for Florida licensure and then retake the parts of NBEO that they've already completed!
Can you believe that?! As if taking the boards once wasn't stressful and costly enough, can you imagine going through that process all over again?! And then having to deal with how delayed your license would be after graduation! Please get the word out about this issue and contact the Florida State Board to help get this matter resolved quickly!
